4.Mitomycin:-
This drug belongs to the family of aziridine antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces caespitosus or S.lavendulae.
Mechanism:-
After taken by the intravenous route(Recommended) through metabolism the drug is reduced to an alkylating agent by damaging the DNA strand by alkylation and kill the cell.
Clinical Uses:-
1.Cervical carcinoma
2. Lung cancer
3.Bladder and colon cancer.
5.Pilcamycin:-
This is an antibiotic extracted from Streptomyces plicatus.
Mechanism:-
It impairs the DNA base pairs in a manner similar to dactinomycin and inhibits RNA synthesis.
This drug can be taken intravenously.
Clinical Use:-
1.Testicular cancer(very limited use because of severe toxicity)
2.Malignant hypercalcemia.
Toxicity:-
1.Bone marrow suppression
2.Bleeding disorders
3.Liver damage
4.Kidney failure.
