NIPAH OR NIFA VIRUS

NIPAH VIRUS


The infection of NIPAH known as NIV infection caused by a typical RNA virus belonging to the family of genus Henipavirus.
The viral infections are mainly air born and some times by personal contact with the infected sources.
The Nipah virus is spread by fruit-eating bats, pigs, and many cattle. It first surfaced and spread by bats in Malaysia in a village known as Sungai Nipah. By the name of that village, the virus got its name.
In India, especially in Kerala, it spreads through direct contact with fruit bats, sick pigs, and drinking raw palm toddy.

Symptoms:-

In the beginning, it is asymptomatic for at least 7 to 14 days from the day of the infection.
Once it got entry into the blood cells within 24 hours it begins with the symptoms like fever, headache, cough, respiratory depression, and confusion. In the next couple of days, the symptoms get worsened leads to a condition known as Encephalitis which is caused by brain inflammation.
Finally, the symptom gets worsened followed by coma and death.
